In order to be productive, it often helps to have a clean space. The New Year is a perfect time to declutter, get organized, and start with a clean slate.
Magazines and Mail – Take the time to go through old magazines and holiday sales catalogues to discard. While doing this, you may want to organize all other important documents and note any important dates that may be coming up.
Pantry Extras – It is easy to buy more than necessary in the winter. Prepping for various Holiday parties and family gatherings can leave your pantry overflowing. While it may be tempting to keep all the goodies, consider taking out everything you may not need and donating to your local food pantry.
Your Closet – The past holiday season may have potentially left your closet overflowing from both sales and gifts. Have any articles of clothing that no longer fit? What about the pants that have not seen daylight in ages? Donate to your local non-profit or sell them to a consignment shop (think Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads Trading). Get organized by saying goodbye to the old and make room for the new.
Linen Closet – Have you recently bought or received new bedding or throws for your living room? Consider giving an old set away. If you feel up to the challenge, you may want to get rid of old towels too.
Kids’ Toys – Kids are more willing to get rid of old toys if they are distracted by all the new goodies they have received over the holidays. Take this time to donate the toys that your children may not pay that much attention to anymore. Slowly but surely, it will be easier to pick up after playtime.
Kitchen Drawers – Do you have doubles for cooking utensils? Maybe do away with the extras. Alos, an easy way to organize your kitchen drawers is adding more compartments so all of your cooking supplies stay orderly. No more getting frustrated for not being able to find your favorite potato peeler.
