A Message From the Sellers: 767 55th Street

Our Home:

In 2011 we had just welcomed our first child into the world at our small 2 bedroom house rental, and we knew we needed more space to grow in the coming years. 767 55th Street in North Oakland’s Bushrod neighborhood quickly drew us in, and we jumped at the opportunity to buy our first home in this diverse and growing neighborhood.

In 2014 we welcomed our second child, and a new puppy! Our home has given our family inviting spaces to gather and make lifelong memories, as well as room to spread out into separate areas when desired. The open layout of the living and dining areas offered a place to share time with family and friends in various ways. Eating delicious meals, playing board games, and watching movies together will be forever etched into our memories from our time here. With 3 bedrooms and an additional bonus room perfect for a home office, play room, or learning space, there are plenty of nooks to have a quiet moment for yourself or get some work done. One of our favorite parts of our home has always been our large, private backyard. It has been a treasured extension of our indoor space and used for countless family barbecues, games of cornhole, birthday parties, and so much more.

When shelter in place began in March, we came to appreciate this refuge even more. It allowed us to stay connected with our community by hosting socially distant get-togethers with friends on the back patio. During the school days, our children were able to listen to class read-alouds on Zoom while swinging in our hammock, harvest fruits and veggies from the raised garden beds, and eat lunch and kick a ball around during lunch. The home has proven to be adaptable through a growing family and even a pandemic.

Throughout the years of owning the property, we have done many updates: all new plumbing, lateral sewer, new furnace, a tankless hot water heater, energy efficient roof with solar panels, James Hardie’s fiber cement siding, and all new windows and doors. We put a lot of love into this home, and we are excited for the next owners.

The Neighborhood:

Over the years, we loved exploring all of the locally-owned businesses and restaurants in the nearby Temescal District. A few of our favorite memories are Sunday walks to the Frog Park and the Claremont Farmers Market for playing and weekly goodies, ice cream from Curbside Creamery while listening to live music in the Alley, grabbing tacos from Cholita Linda, a drink and a game at the Kingfish Pub, and daily strolls through Dover Park’s community edible garden. The benefits of this central location truly are limitless. Take a short Bart ride or Lyft to San Francisco, easily hop on the freeway for an out-of-town day trip, or get out for a hike on the many nearby trails in the Oakland and Berkeley Hills. This home and neighborhood have so much to offer, and we feel so fortunate to have raised our family here during our chapter in Oakland.
